The Emory church of Christ
We are a congregation of the Lord’s church located in Emory, Texas within Rains county.
Our congregation meets weekly on Sundays and have a mid-week Bible study on Wednesday evenings.
The church can trace its roots back to around 1860 in the nearby Willow Springs community before moving to Emory around 1904..
Early Beginnings and Move to Emory
Willow Springs Origin:
The fellowship began around 1860 in the Willow Springs community before relocating into the town of Emory around 1904.
Early Meetings:
Upon arriving in Emory, members initially gathered under a brush arbor before constructing their first frame building equipped with a pot bellied stove.
Official Organization:
The church formally organized its congregation on July 14, 1913.
The Rock Building (1949):
The original frame building served the membership until roughly 1949. During this era, a new structure was built using hand-hauled stones from Millsap, Texas. While construction was underway, the congregation temporarily met in the local school auditorium.
Highway 69 Relocation:
As the community and congregation grew, land was acquired on U.S. Highway 69. A new building was dedicated at the site in the 1970s, and the congregation later transitioned further along Highway 69 in the 1980s to establish their current home to continue weekly worship and mid-week Bible studies.
